From the 1st century BC when the region was part of the Roman empire, the beqaa valley served as a source of grain for the Roman provinces of the Levant.
Landmarks:
1- The ancient Roman ruins of Baalbeck, an ancient city named for the canaanite God Baal.
2- the Umayyad ruins of Anjar.
3- Our Lady of Bekaa, a Marian shrine located in Zahle.
4- Phoenician ruins, located in the village of Kamid al lawz.
5- Roman ruins, located in the town if Jab Elias.
6- the Pyramid tower of Hermel at the northern end of the valley.
