taken at the end of a long, rewarding day of working in bourj el-barajneh... (Bourj al barajneh)
August 30, 2017 by middleoftheeasttaken at the end of a long, rewarding day of working in bourj el-barajneh refugee camp in beirut. tucked away in a mostly residential area of south beirut, this camp began during the mass exodus of palestinian refugees in 1948 and has continued to grow until present day, most recently experiencing a huge influx of inhabitants fleeing the war in syria. it's a tough place to grow up, with no trees or open spaces to play and only occasional sunlight that filters down through the tangle of electrical wires and water pipes overhead. the camp features 7 schools and 1 health centre for around 20,000 registered refugees in the camp, but locals say unofficial numbers are probably closer to 60,000. in amongst this chaos, you'd be hard-pressed to walk more than three feet without encountering the smiling faces of young ones running through this maze of streets they call home or without hearing their laughter wafting from one of the many internet cafes where kids hang out playing computer games such as grand theft auto and counterstrike. #palestine #syria #refugees #refugeeswelcome #lebanonforsyria #yallapourlesenfants // 📸 Nathalie, 📸 Sara, and some expert assistance by our 7 year-old guides and creative art directors in the making, adnan & osama
