Today, mother earth is resisting to keep her residence of the sea.We are... (Residence de La Mer) Today, mother earth is resisting to keep her residence of the sea. We are experiencing a global race on #climatechange to #savethesea while today the Lebanese gov is dumping waste directly into the #Mediterraneansea and taking the decision to expand those sea landfills further with out any precautions, to pave the way for incinerators and #Linord land reclamation of the coast. A lot has grown since 2015 but the trash did not go away and waste still is thrown into sea. We are continuously working with the Zouk Mosbeh Municipality who is supportive towards reducing waste, #balaplastic. #RecycleLebanon started on these very shores of Naher El Kalb 3 years ago with our first clean ups, raising awareness with over 1000 #ecowarriors to sort2recycle highlighting existing solutions and svc @recyclebeirut @arcenciel.aec @ziad_abichaker calling people to #diveintoaction to save our beloved paradise and our health from the fabricated waste crisis. Guised as a gyre, the shoreline is covered in our waste from the 3 coastal landfills. The entire Lebanese coast is polluted with waste. Just here at Residence de la Mer, 95% plastics and rising, washes in and covers 80% of the coast with each roaring rain; with washed up household and industrial pollution, sewage, oil spills and sea landfills; the case is an #ecocide. Our national strategy for solid waste management is killing us as we bathe in and breathe in our waste., #HumanRightsWatch released the research on Open Burning and launched the #stoptheburning campaign calling for the gov to form a national strategy. The gov called for the formation of the Committee with 1 member from civil society by 10 days. We are taking action locally and internationally through legislation, on-ground activities, data visualising and mapping solid waste management and circular economy platforms, workshops, campaigns, zerowaste clean ups and are proud active members in #breakfreefromplastic Mediterranean, #plasticpollutes and founding members in #wmclebanon #plasticfree #beatpollution #cleanseas #lebanon #livelovelebanon #livelovebeirut
