April 06, 2018 by recyclelebanonTomorrow is the global initiative to Return Unnecessary Packaging to Supermarkets™. Please comment here if you will be taking part with which supermarket you will go to. In Lebanon, we have less of a plastic produce problem compared to the western supermarkets as we still have local produce from farm to market unpackaged as part of our baladi culture. But we do have a big plastic bag addiction mixed into our spirit of hospitality along with over packaged products and this will be great to demonstrate alternatives! When shopping, please bring your tote bag, glass Tupperware and any veggie bags you may have. Photograph or video your experience wherever you may be in Lebanon using hashtag #balaplastic #waivetheplasticwave and post your activity. Take footage of the products you purchase, the type of packaging, the alternatives (for instance glass or local mouneh ketchup vs plastic packaged ketchup etc) Be sure to pay attention to the hidden plastics, especially when purchasing tea bags made from plastic bags or toothpaste with microplastics. Returning the packaging to the supermarket will keep the trash going straight to sea without proper recycling due to our state of affairs in Lebanon. Please gather the branch name, lead contact at supermarkets email and phone number to follow up with them to reduce single use packaging and recycling of excess waste and send it to us. Worse case, if you recycle - demonstrate the action but actually take the plastic back with you home to recycle so the story of waste is not lost at sea <3 Thanks to Green Dream Foundation Volunteers for drumming the call. #breakfreeefromplastic #plasticpollutes #lebanon
