July 15, 2017 by jadmassabniDeir-El-Qamar, Lebanon ☀️🌷🌳❤️ . This is “Deir-El-Qamar” (Translation: Monastery of the moon), one of the most beautiful & magical villages of Lebanon. . 20km away from Beirut, in south-central Lebanon, this unique village is well know for being a few decades ago, the Capital and the residence of the governors of Lebanon. . Some might not be aware but Deir-El-Qamar is the first village in Lebanon to have a Municipality in 1864 and elected the first municipality in the Arab provinces of the Ottoman Empire in the same year. . Deir al-Qamar is known as the Capital of Emirs (Princes) as well. From its palaces, Mount Lebanon was governed from the 16th until the 18th century. People from all religious backgrounds lived there and the town had a Mosque, Synagogue and Churches. (Today, people from 18 different religion co-live in Lebanon). . I always avoid politics & religion but I think it’s only fair to mention that once upon a time, long before today’s regional conflicts, Deir al-Qamar also had a well established Jewish community, and a synagogue (built in 1638) which is today the site of the French Cultural Center. . Deir-El-Qamar must do: 1. Dany Chamoun Square 2. Marie Baz Wax Museum 3. Fakhreddine’s Mosque 4. Emir Younes Maan Palace 5. My favorite: Get lost in the village and discover the magic of its small, authentic streets . #village #history #stone #architecture #nature #naturephotography #flowers #green #sun #sunlight #day #sky #bluesky #livelovelebanon #livelovebeirut #life #love #photography #summer #photooftheday #colors #roadtrip #tourism #travel #adventure #amazing #beautiful #deirelqamar #beirut #lebanon
