A Brooklyn, elle a principalement Ă©tĂ© formĂ©e par des maronites d’Alep en Syrie. Its doors showcase 10 medaillons coming from the the famed French luxury liner Normandie. And its windows and large mural of Our Lady of Harissa are the work of Lebanese artist Saliba Douaihy, who came to Brooklyn in the late 50s. The Church has been in the Maronite fold since 1944. But it was built a century earlier and was the first Romanesque Revival church in the USA. In 1977, due to the reorganization of the Maronite Eparchy in the US, Our Lady of Lebanon Church became a Cathedral. The Maronite community in New York dates back to 1890. In Brooklyn, the community was initially formed mainly by maronites from Aleppo, Syria.
