May 24, 2018 by myamazinglebanonThe Lebanese government has approved the development of a beach resort (because we don't have enough of those already) on the coast of Anfeh. And although this came with the approval of two other beach resorts - one in Zouk Mekayel and one in Damour - today I want you to take a minute and read about why the Anfeh resort in particular is exceptionally disastrous. The proposed resort will occupy 31,000 m2 on land, and 39,000 m2 of seafilling. The Directorate General of Urban Planning has rejected this project based on the ecological, environmental, historical and cultural significance of Deir El Natour Peninsula where the resort is to be constructed. Deir El Natour Peninsula is a high priority sensitive area and is included in the list of sensitive cultural sites in Lebanon. It is one of seven coastal sites in Lebanon which are both culturally and ecologically significant. It is proposed by the Ministry of Environment to become a Marine Protected Area. The waters off the coast of Anfeh are among the cleanest in Lebanon. The olive groves of Deir el Natour Peninsula are an agricultural land of national importance. The salt fields of the Peninsula are of high cultural and historical significance, and are proposed as a potential Natural Reserve. The Peninsula is very rich in prehistoric archaeological sites. #a7labaladbil3alam 🇱🇧 #environment #protecttheenvironment #savetheplanet #anfeh #liveloveanfeh #lebanon #photo #picoftheday #photooftheday #ig_landscape #landscape #landscape_lovers #scenery #capture #instagood #instalike #igers #ig_worldclub #ig_mood #ig_daily #nature #mothernature #ig_nature #naturephotography #natureshots #nature_lovers #earth #planet #planetearth
