May 31, 2017 by the_adventures_of_ricardo_roryToday's Google Doodle is celebrating Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, with May 31 marking exactly 13 years since she became the first woman to win the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize (some past winners such as I.M. Pei, Oscar Niemeyer, Frank Gehry and Norman Foster). Born in Baghdad, Iraq to the parents from Mosul, she went to boarding schools in England and Switzerland as a child before studying maths at the American University of Beirut. Later on she moved to London to study architecture. In 2012, in honor of her services to the profession, Queen Elizabeth II made her a Dame. This gallery is an example of her greatest future work which currently is still under construction at Beirut Souks complex in Beirut, Lebanon: North Souks Department Store (Zaha Hadid Department Store).
