2017 annual #BalaPlastic clean up of Zouk Mosbeh with Lebanese Scouts, sorted by 250 volunteers and recycled by @recyclebeirut and rejectables processed by @ziad_abichaker. Maximising recovery of resources, diverting waste from reaching back into the coastal landfills, rivers, mountains and open burning. Hariri called on Ramco to clean up this beach after Mondays storm covered it in rubbish, an annual occurrence as this location acts as a gyre. More plastic bags were washed up compared to plastic bottles the year before. How will the gov process this weeks beach clean up waste? What percentage are they able to recycle vs send back to the coastal landfills they came from? We call for an end to coastal landfills and their expansion and to stop the decision to incinerate. The people are willing and able to sort and recycle, and have a strong desire to make a difference; however, we need the government to support rather than hinder this movement legislatively. They are currently passing laws that are detrimental to Lebanon’s environmental health such as the extension of the coastal landfills and the implementation of incinerators rather than introducing policies that boost the recycling sector and passing laws that reduce the single use plastic production. #recyclelebanon #liveloverecycle #livelovescouts #livelovelebanon #lebanon #wastecrisis #recyclelebanon #liveloverecycle #livelovescouts #livelovelebanon #lebanon #wastecrisis
